In "Build South Dakota: The Game," players engage in a virtual pre-apprenticeship experience that meticulously guides them through the phases of a highway construction project. The game highlights essential skills required for various roles, including Carpenter, Pile Driver, Concrete Finisher, Skilled Laborer, Heavy Equipment Operator, and Inspector. Through a combination of interactive games, informative videos, and assessment tools, users can develop a comprehensive understanding of the highway construction industry. Ultimately, participants will be equipped to explore various real-world opportunities in this sector.

The key features of "Build South Dakota: The Game" include:

• In-depth exploration of four primary construction trades.
• Mini-games designed to assess aptitudes and skills.
• Access to resources for learning about and applying for real job opportunities.
• Videos showcasing real construction professionals in action.
• Earning industry-recognized badges to acknowledge accomplishments.
• The creation of a Skill Arcade profile to monitor progress across different games.

This initiative was funded by the Associated General Contractors of South Dakota, aiming to educate high school students about the advantages of pursuing a career in construction. The mission focuses on delivering high-quality services that enhance skill development, responsibility, and integrity within the construction industry. AGC provides comprehensive educational training tailored to South Dakota’s construction sector.

"Build South Dakota: The Game" is part of the Future Road Builders initiative, developed in partnership with the Constructors Association of Western PA and PennDOT, with financial support from a FWHA Ladders of Opportunities grant.
